Healthy school lunches programme
ka ora / ka ako

This program aims to reduce food insecurity by providing access to a nutritious lunch in school everyday.

We are proud to be part of this movement by being an approved supplier.

We care about our regions children and understand education is key.

We also care for our environment by producing lunch’s with zero waste.

Our philosophy of food made with love extends into our schools, with approximately 870 Gisborne children receiving our lunches, all within a $5 - $7 budget per child.

“We strive hard to ensure there are five fruits and vegetables in every meal.  I do not want our children to be hungry at school.”
Amy

A typical weekly menu will include:

2 cold meals - sandwich, roll, wrap, sushi, yogurt and fruit

3 hot meals – vege nachos, beef chow mein, spaghetti with meatballs, homemade soup

Special dietary requirements are incorporated into the menu.

“Healthy Lunches have literally changed the āhua in our kura over the last couple of weeks. Prior to lunches we had a lot of tamariki coming to school hungry and looking for kai from their friends and teachers. A lot of our tamariki were disengaged and unmotivated.  Now, after two weeks of free lunches we have happy kids and happy teachers.  Our children seem to be more motivated to learn and are more engaged.”
